Investigaciones en terreno buscan comprender el ecosistema prístino de Nasampulli
Investigadores de cuatro centros de investigación, incluido la Fundación Centro por los Bosques Nativos Forecos, instalaron durante el mes de junio pasado más de una decena de instrumentos de medición hidrológica y meteorológica en la Reserva Nasampulli. Estos instrumentos instalados en 3 zonas al interior de la reserva permitirán conocer con mucha precisión el balance hídrico que ocurre a nivel de la cuenca. Es decir, que se podrá cuantificar que a la cuenca ingresa una cantidad de agua, por medio de la precipitación y otras formas; y luego existe una cantidad que sale de la cuenca, por medio de su río principal.
Los instrumentos instalados en dos nodos medirán por ejemplo, temperatura del aire y del suelo, humedad relativa, volumen de agua del suelo y altura de la nieve. Una de las novedades de estos sensores e instrumentos es que se podrá determinar no sólo el volumen de agua caída por lluvia sino también por nieve. Con los instrumentos antiguos sólo se podía medir el volumen de precipitaciones líquidas. Y en el tercer nodo se instaló un fluviómetro que determina el caudal de una sección del río.
Red de monitoreo
El trabajo en la reserva Nasampulli es liderado por Antonio Lara y se realiza gracias al esfuerzo conju
nto de investigadores del Centro de Ciencia del Clima y la Resiliencia (CR)2, Forecos, Centro de Estudios Científicos (CECS) y Universidad de Chile.
En este sentido, el monitoreo también se suma a una red de medición hidrológica, que se realiza en un gradiente latudinal entre Chillán y Nasampulli (en la Araucanía) y próximamente se sumarán dos estaciones más, una en la Región de Los Ríos y otra en la Región de Los Lagos, con el fin de entender cómo están siendo afectadas las distintas cuencas por procesos de cambio climático. Y así poder conocer y entender el comportamiento de los recursos hídricos y cómo ellos pueden ser manejados para satisfacer las diversas demandas por el agua y el bienestar de la población.
