Restauración ecológica para la recuperación del servicio ecosistémico de provisión de agua

residente de la Fundación Centro de los Bosques Nativos FORECOS presentó la Conferencia Magistral con la que se abrió el Primer Congreso Latinoamericano IUFRO de Ecología del Paisaje realizado en Temuco del 28 de noviembre al 2 de diciembre.alara-iufro2016

La Conferencia se tituló “Restauración para la recuperación de la provisión de agua como un servicio ecosistémico en paisajes dominados por plantaciones forestales y cambio climático”.

En esta conferencia planteó el desafío de desarrollar paisajes multifuncionales restaurando la vegetación nativa para una provisión balanceada de los bienes y servicios ecosistémicos.

También señalo que “La matriz del paisaje cada vez se torna más hostil, eso es por el rápido cambio en el uso del suelo, por una parte, y por otro lado el cambio climático que nos ha traído menos precipitaciones, aumento de temperatura, y también las especies invasoras; entonces hacer restauración a escala de paisaje con una matriz hostil es difícil, requiere investigación, conocimiento y sobre todo acción e inversión de parte del Estado, de las empresas e involucramiento de muchas organizaciones y propietarios”.

 A la vez resaltó la importancia de comprender y modelar los trade-offs entre bienes y servicios ecosistémicos y buscar su optimización, implementar acciones de restauración y estimar las tasas y plazos de recuperación de los servicios ecosistémicos.

El profesor Lara opina que a pesar de todos los avances en restauración, los esfuerzos aún son muy pequeños. “Hacerlo a escala de paisaje implicaría por ejemplo inversiones a nivel público y privado, modificaciones a la Ley de Bosque Nativo y focalizar una nueva ley de fomento centrada en restauración”, observó.  Lo cual es especialmente importante como una medida de adaptación al cambio climático que nos está afectando desde las últimas décadas y con predicciones futuras de menores precipitaciones y aumento de la ocurrencia de sequías en el Centro Sur de Chile.
