Investigadores dan a conocer pérdida de bosque nativo en los últimos 40 años

Noticia La Tercera, perdida de bosque nativoUna nueva publicación en la revista Regional Environmental Change da cuenta de la pérdida de bosque nativo en Chile, durante los últimos 40 años. En esta publicación donde participaron investigadores de FORECOS junto a investigadores de la Universidad de la Frontera, muestran que desde el año 1970 se ha perdido el 19% de bosque nativo del centro-sur de Chile, siendo el periodo entre 1970 y 1990 donde más se perdió.
Sin embargo los autores plantean que la tasa de deforestación sigue siendo alta, por lo tanto, la pérdida de bosque nativo no es una problemática que haya quedado atrás, más bien continúa.
Los resultados evidencian que el bosque nativo que se ha perdido se ha transformado fundamentalmente en matorrales/arbustos (cerca del 45%), en plantaciones forestales y en terrenos agrícolas. No obstante, en la zona de mayor riqueza de especies, la conversión ha sido principalmente a plantaciones de árboles exóticos (pino y eucaliptus).
