La edición actualizada, editada por el profesor Emérito de la UACh, Dr. Claudio Donoso, y los académicos Dr. Mauro González y Antonio Lara, cuenta con la participación de 56 destacados autores.
De los 56 autores, cinco pertenecen a la Fundación FORECOS, entre ellos destaca el Presidente Antonio Lara, el Vicepresidente Christian Little. Entre los Colaboradores se encuentra el Dr. Mauro González, Dr (c) Marco Cortez, David Lobos y Enrique Cruz.
La ceremonia de lanzamiento se realizó el pasado viernes 7 de noviembre de 2014 en la parcela Senderos del Bosque. En la oportunidad, el Rector de la Universidad Austral de Chile, Dr. Oscar Galindo, señaló que “es un motivo de profunda alegría que el segundo trabajo de la Editorial de nuestra Universidad sea recoger este libro, uno de los patrimonios intelectuales de nuestra institución. Es una oportunidad de volver a dimensionar el aporte enorme que el profesor Claudio Donoso y que la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales y Recursos Naturales ha hecho a nuestro país en estos 60 años de historia”.
Asimismo, el Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales y Recursos Naturales de la UACh, Dr. Víctor Sandoval, manifestó que “la publicación de este libro plasma nuestra convicción de que los bosques son y seguirán siendo parte central de preocupación de la sociedad, del público nacional, pero al mismo tiempo, este libro es parte importante del conocimiento académico y de la inspiración de muchos jóvenes estudiantes, profesionales y público en general , que direccionan sus vidas al cuidado de los bosques, de los ecosistemas y de la naturaleza”.
El Presidente del Consejo Editorial Ediciones UACh, Dr. Yanko González, expresó su deseo de que este libro fuera reeditado. “Imaginé que si algún día la Universidad tenía una editorial éste debía ser uno de los primeros libros en editarse y pasaron décadas para que este sueño se concretara”.
Por su parte el Director Regional de CONAF Los Ríos, Fredy Ortega, agradeció el haber sido invitado a la ceremonia e indicó que “quienes trabajamos en CONAF nos damos cuenta cómo son las exigencias diarias del bosque: el tema del agua, la biodiversidad biológica, las comunidades indígenas, temas instalados que forman parte del libro”.
“Creo que todas las generaciones de Ingenieros Forestales de Chile estudiaron con este libro. Qué mejor que tener una segunda versión con investigaciones actualizadas”, añadió.
El comentario del libro estuvo a cargo del Dr. Juan Andrés Varas de la Facultad de Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales de la UACh, quien finalizó la ceremonia.
Ecología Forestal
La reedición del libro cuenta con 19 capítulos que tratan diversos temas como la historia y el desarrollo de la ecología forestal en Chile; clima, suelos forestales y sitio forestal; aves y mamíferos del bosque; los ciclos biogeoquímicos; emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero y el cambio climático; la hidrobiología; flujo de nutrientes y cadenas tróficas en arroyos boscosos; sucesión y dinámica de bosques y la influencia de disturbios en los bosques templados de Chile y Argentina; restauración de ecosistemas forestales, entre otras temáticas.
Claudio Donoso señaló que su primera edición fue publicada en el año 1981. “Los editores resolvimos que se escribiera ya no una nueva edición sino un libro diferente y actualizado consistente con los grandes cambios y avances ocurridos en las últimas décadas y con la relevancia actual de la conservación y manejo de los bosques; los problemas que enfrentamos relacionados con el cambio global, la conservación de la biodiversidad biológica y la sustentabilidad de los ecosistemas naturales y manejados requieren de un mayor conocimiento ecológico”.
El Dr. Donoso destacó a algunas instancias y personas que permitieron la creación de este libro, entre ellos “nuestros bellos y únicos bosques nativos de Chile, los que están siempre inspirándonos de alguna manera”. Agradeció también al ecólogo y geógrafo Thomas Veblen, maestro de la ecología y dinámica de los bosques templados de Chile y Argentina, a quien se encuentra dedicado el libro.
